General Information.
The Display Case Kit ( D.C.K.) concept evolved from
my own need for a display case for my model ships. It
had to be simple to construct, look good and protect
against most household perils. I found the more common
design of timber and glass too imposing and distracting
from the object on display. I believe the light and
unobtrusive D.C.K. design focuses the attention on the
model/object rather than the case.
The standard kit has a 9 mm unpainted MDF base board, which
gives you the opportunity to colour co-ordinate both the base
and fittings with the object displayed, your interior
design and tastes. The case consists of five sheets of 3
mm UV stabilised acrylic, i.e. a left, right, front and
back side plus a top cover. Two sets of hand cast pewter
fittings are glued to the corners of the case holding
the components in place, using a clear, general purpose,
solvent-based glue. Assembly of the Kit is straight-forward
and it comes with full set of instructions.
Advice for clients outside Australia.
Since acrylic and MDF are rather heavy we advise our
overseas clients to purchase just the pewter
fittings to use with your own materials. The
"Fittings only kit" comes with all the
instructions to manufacture your own case. See the Fittings
page for more information.
